At first when I arranged the hairstyles and microphones on top of the patterns, the different components looked like they merged and it was hard to define the edges of the images. To get round this, I used a white brush on a new layer to create a border around each of the shapes to make them stand out more and I think this subtle change really helps.
I altered the levels to make the places and greys stronger so they would stand out more on a small scale. I think the patterns work really well and give each stamp their own identity whilst still working totally as a set.
I think they work well in black and white but to make them work with my other images I tried them out using a pale yellow. Because I am using a gold/yellow on my poster, I want this colour to run though all of my pieces. I think this is equally, if not more successful than the black and white ones because the white borders create a higher contrast and the black shapes pop out more.
