Today I have been listening to Ella Fitzgerald and mark-making to her music. I found this quite difficult to get into and I got a bit frustrated at the beginning because it just looked like I was making a mess on the page. However, when I got into it, I think I have come up with a few patterns, marks and textures that I will be able to refine and then incorporate into my images. I think working within boxes helped me because it kept things separate and everything had it place rather than letting everything merge into one another on an open page.
I like this because it shows the difference between Ella Fitzgerald's and Louis Armstrong's voices. Louis' voice is the marks at the bottom which are lower which contrasts with Ella's voice which is higher and dances around more.
I think these were my best attempts at mark-making to music. I feel like some of them capture the swing of the music whereas others focus more on the force of the band.
