Person of Note - jazz record sleeve research

I have been researching jazz record sleeve designs through the decades which Ella Fitzgerald's career ran through. In my sketchbook I have been picking up on interesting shapes, use of colour and general compositions within the square frame. One thing that particularly stood out to me was the use of squares or straight lines to break up the composition or frame a photograph within the image. The colours all seem quite bright and lively and there is a lot of variation so this hasn't really helped me narrow down a colour scheme for my work.

Picking up on patterns and shapes has helped me think of ways to possible put my images together and given me an insight into some compositions which would be relevant to the theme of jazz. I have not seen many distinctive things about each decade of record sleeves so I think I would struggle to make each decade recognisable purely through this, so I will just use this research to generally inform all of my pieces.
