After some more roughs I finally decided on this bottom image as the layout for my Marilyn Monroe postcard.
This was the pattern I chose for the Marilyn postcard, I particularly like the inverted version because I think it resembles the bright lights of performing venues. I thought I could use it to try and recreate the scene at the Mocambo where Marilyn is watching Ella perform from a front table.
Patterns for Ella's dress
I wanted something bold to show her strong personality but when I tried to arrange this on photoshop I couldn't get it to look right.
It looks too busy and misleading, I think it is because the strength of the lines in the pattern are too similar to the actual outlines of my drawings.
I tried this pattern instead, altering the levels to make it look more like an animal print which I still think shows her bold personality. I think this works a lot better and it contrasts better with the background.
I felt I needed something to great up this image so I experimented with a spotlight on Ella.
I have decided to go with the one on the bottom right. I like how how there is more than one ray of light and they are bright enough to be clearly noticeable.
