To start I took the words from the brief and brainstormed how these could be represented.
I liked the idea of light showing creativity and I also thought it was fitting for the Christmas theme. To make the design process quicker and less complex I decided immediately that this was going to be the direction I would take this brief. I started looking at lightbulb shapes and showed them hanging like baubles or decorations. I came up with the idea of using the college logo shape as the shape of the bulb.
To develop this idea further I did some more roughs. I like the design in the bottom right because it looks like some sort of three dimensional, angular shape that is the correct shape at that certain angle. I thought the triangle and focus on angular shapes also fitted to my research of the theme of the college's current promotional visuals.
After this is where I got a bit carried away in my sketchbook. You can see in my sketchbook where I was trying to think of things that could exist in each of these shapes. A lot of my ideas were very literal and course based which might have worked fine if I had loads of time to refine each one, but I don't, and I was worried that the card was going to become a blend of cliché art school imagery. I decided to leave it for the day and revisit it later on.
