I have only started using Photoshop since being on this course so I was relying on my knowledge gained from the workshops last term and the tutorials available on line. I also gained a few tips from my peers and by asking the tutors questions but a lot of it I managed to figure out for myself or come across different functions by accident.
I learnt about:
Levels
Hue/saturation
Output levels
Brightness and Contrast
How to use a screen layer
This was one of my initial gouache paintings just done as an experiment, however, when I started adjusting the evils and colours on photoshop I realised it had a lot more potential as an image than I previously thought. I can use photoshop to enhance what I want the image to be saying. I love the colours in the bottom right example but don't feel they are appropriate for an emotive image like this. I think the top right is most appropriate and this is the one I will continue to develop.
I started working with a background here but realised that I was losing the definition of the outlines of the figures. I prefer the more subtle images at the bottom which were created by using a screen layer to alter the colours. The blue image emphasises the sadness of the situation but I decided to use brown instead as I felt it linked to the theme of tea more. This was when I decided that my whole book will be based around a tea-coloured palette. I may need a sot colour to pick out certain things and this will most likely be red to represent the danger and cruelty towards the end of the book.
