Tomine's name has been mentioned in numerous sessions so I thought I would have a look at some of his work. I thought it may be useful to the 'I See Faces' brief as I might gain a better understanding of facial expressions and character development. This is actually the first graphic novel I have read cover to cover and I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I have never really taken a huge interest in comics so this is probably what deterred me from reading things like this but this story captivated me and it was so easy to read and understand. Tomine manages to capture each individual expression perfectly which really helps you to connect with the characters and understand their individual personalities.
Some pages have no speech on at all and I thought a few of these moments were particularly poignant. I feel I have been a bit judgemental of graphic novels in the past, not giving them much attention and just assuming they wouldn't interest me but I will definitely read more of these in future.
