In previous briefs, I have received feedback saying my images may have worked better on a coloured background as I usually work directly onto a plain white background. I don't want these images to look lost in blank white space so I chose a selection of neutral coloured backgrounds and used them as a background for my drawings to see how would affect my images.
These shades of brown work really well with the yellow of the banana. I think it gives the image an earthy feel and links to nature as well. I feel this is relevant to Fairtrade as it reminds the viewer about the farming and work that goes into making bananas available to us. A coloured background also makes the white on the banana more noticeable.
I think the paler backgrounds work better with this image because the red stands out more. However, I am not sure yet that I am using this exact image in my final piece or whether there will be black lines on it too.
I need to develop my 'mirror mirror on the wall' image and try these backgrounds out with that too before making a decision.
