Feedback (after easter break)

Megacrit

Main Points
  • A lot of good research.
  • Good planning and explanation.
  • Good media experiments with pattern and mark making.
  • Gouache painting is working well.
  • Good overall concept, flexible to work in a wide product range.
My Response

I was really pleased to have received such positive feedback. I came back to college after the easter break thinking I might be a bit behind but this has reassured me that I am on track. I didn't really receive any criticism which I suppose is a good thing, but I know that I need to work harder on developing my final images and making them really good quality. I also feel I need to get a bigger sketchbook and continue drawing, especially figures because I feel I can develop my technique here if I was working on a larger scale and was able to work more freely.

Peer Group Feedback

Main Points
  • Think about using plantable paper.
  • Keep working with pattern and experimenting with this.
  • Think about a wider range of products, pushing the range further than paper products and home furnishing. Think about gardening equipment and the gift market.
My Response

I think I got more useful feedback in the megacrit, I felt like everyone in the peer review already knew what they were doing with their projects so there was very little to say really. Obviously this is a good thing because people seemed to be on track, I personally feel like its just a case of getting on with it now. I will be able to focus on this brief in more depth when the responsive deadline is over and I am in a better place with my context of practice module.

Chat with Teresa

I spoke with Teresa about my project and how it has developed over easter, it became clear that I need to make some decisions about what I am actually wanting to do. I think it would really help me to write another proposal that is more relevant to the current stage of my project, I have moved totally away from the editorial and reportage starting point.

Do I want to work with figures or just abstract patterns?
Do abstract patterns alone have enough impact and get across my message?
Could I narrow down my product range to give it a clearer purpose?
Who is my audience?
What is the tone of voice?
What is the function of my products?
Could figures be simplified to make them more appropriate?
