In most modules I have completed so far on this course, I have highlighted colour as a weakness of mine. I really want to get my colour choices right with this module so I turned to the Pantone website for inspiration.
First, I looked at the spring 2016 colours. They seemed uplifting as a set but I was concerned that they might be too bright for the calming theme I an aiming for. I read the information for each of these colours and included the ones I thought were relevant in this presentation. The description for 'green flash' includes a statement about how this colour represents nature's influence on urban life and how this inspired designers. This just screamed out to me that 'this has been done so many times before' so I think I am going to avoid using green at all in my products. I want to use the meanings of other colours to get across my message rather than using green as a typical way to represent nature.
I then used the fall 2016 colours as inspiration. These were much deeper, richer colours which makes sense. I didn't think many of them were appropriate apart from the blues which both had calming connotations.
The pantone colours of the year (rose quartz and serenity) are both very appropriate to my theme. These are both in the spring collection of colours but using them together creates a very calming atmosphere and a sense of relaxation. I don't just want to use these alone though, I think I want to make a range using some of the colours that work well alongside it. I feel like the range will be fitting for a wider audience if more colours are used, like having the same range available in different colours. This would also help with working alongside different colours of plants.
I have put a star next to the colours from these colour ranges relating to rose quartz and serenity, to mark the ones that I think have potential.
I am feeling better about the colour element of my project now. I will be returning to the pantone website for colour guidance and inspiration but I have a clearer idea now of what I want my products to look like.
